Hi there. In this video we're going to go through the very quick and easy process of setting up a text path for engraving on this particular workpiece. So to do so the first thing that we need to do is go back into the model space. So I'm going to click on the model tab here and I'm going to select the part just so we've got it properly assigned and I'm thinking I'd like to engrave the word ENCY around here.
So let's pan around and we're going to click on the text creation tool. We're going to type in the word ENCY and the first thing that we want to do is change the angle to 90 degrees like that. And we're going to set it to center justification even though it doesn't seem to quite align up to the dead center there but that's not a huge problem because there's a 10 millimeter offset in Y here which would be Y. So sorry terrible pun there.
So I'm going to type in zero there and that should centralize it and we're going to drop it in X by about 60 I think maybe give or take a little bit more. So we're going to go with 64 and I'm going to change the height slightly because 10 millimeters seems a little big. So I'm going to change that to 8 and generally that seems quite nicely centered and aligned on the part that we want it to be on. So I would say that I'm satisfied with that so we're going to now click apply and OK.
Now the next thing that we need to do is make sure that it's actually applied to the correct height on the part. So the easy way to do this would be to select it so we know exactly what we're moving and as you can see it's offset from this plane quite a bit. So we are going to go into the spatial transformations menu and we're going to drop it in the Z axis. I believe that's down to minus 14 but let's just check.
Yes minus 14. So we're going to click apply and close and we can now return to the machining tab and actually set up the process for it. So we're going to go to add operation. We're going to go to 2D and then engraving and we're going to change the view a little bit so we can see a bit more of what's going on.
We're going to select the text again. It's a little bit hard to see with this coloration and we're going to click on job assignment and add pocket. So now that we've done that we are going to define the heights that we're going to be working at using the strategy tab and it automatically defaults to 0 millimeters as the base plane. We're working at minus 14 remember.
And we want to set our bottom level to let's go with 0. 75 of a millimeter so minus 14. 75. And we're going to turn on v-carving as well because otherwise it'll try to trace the outline.
We don't really want it to trace the outline we want it to actually fill out the text as best it can. So once we've defined all of that we can now click on generate toolpath just to see and yes as we can see right there it's produced a pretty clean toolpath even one that's nicely serifed. So that should give us the angular difference to get the corners there. And we can now go into simulation to take a look at how this comes out.
So I am going to fast track the simulation up to this point and then I'm going to click on run. I'll just come down there so we can see and that's doing a very neat and tidy job of giving us a nice clean set of lettering there which isn't bad for a 10 millimeter conical bit is it? So I'm quite happy with that and I hope that you are as well. Obviously have a play around with the engraving tool.
Engrave your own message whatever you'd like to put on there but for the sake of this illustration ENCY seems like a pretty sensible fit. So that is how we set up text engraving paths in ENCY. As promised nice quick simple and easy. In the next video we're going to do the final part setup we're going to flip it over and face off the back face as well as dealing with any tidy up things that we want to do before we finish.
